When Do I Call A Plumber?

When do I call a Plumber?

How do I know when I should call Marines Plumbing? What issues warrant a professional versus some YouTube inspired DIY?

This is a great question and one that we know many homeowners and renters face. Yes, there are some issues that are easily resolved on your own (clogs), some that can be resolved on your own with a little more effort (leaky pipes), and then some that always require a professional (installations).

Regardless of the plumbing scenario you face, if you do not feel comfortable troubleshooting the issue, or if you have tried and are at a loss to even diagnose what is going on, do not hesitate to reach out to us! We are a company driven by our customers so if you need something (troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair) we are happy to help in any way we can.

The following scenarios are when you absolutely should call Marines Plumbing or when you may need to call us if the issue isn’t as easily fixed as previously thought.

Always Call Us

There are some scenarios where you should always call in a professional. These include:

  • Installations – pipes, sinks, tubs
  • Water heater issues
  • New construction (with building permits)
  • Septic tank leaks
  • Sewer line leaks or breaks

Another scenario that requires a professional plumber is a routine plumbing inspection. While you can (and should) check your pipes, tubs, and sinks regularly for any visible cracks or leaks, Marines Plumbing can do an in-depth inspection for you that will dig deeper to see if there are any potential issues starting. These inspections are important as they can catch leaks when they are minor

before they become major issues taking lots of time, effort, and money to fix.

At Marines Plumbing, we will do the following as part of an inspection:

  • Garbage disposal cleaning
  • Water heater cleaning
  • Pressure tests
  • Water pressure assessment and adjustment
  • Drain treatments

Sometimes Call Us

There are so many common issues that have easy fixes, but then become complicated over time or are more complex than you originally thought. In these cases, you may not always need a professional, but sometimes you will.

  • Dripping Faucet – while the cause is straightforward, the repair is not. It requires specialized tools and if it has been occurring for a long time, it will require a more complicated fix.
  • Low water pressure – if you have low water pressure that just will not improve despite trying several things to fix it, there may be a bigger issue that a professional can address.
  • Stubborn clogs – while most clogs are easily treated, there are some that are persistent and can’t be solved with plungers alone.
  • Leaky pipes – if you have a leak that requires a substantial pipe repair or replacement you may not want to attempt it yourself.
  • Toilet issues – if you have a constant running toilet that you have already tried replacing the flapper valve and it is still leaking, it may be indicative of a more complex issue.

If you live in the Northern Virginia area and need a professional plumber for any of the reasons above or any reasons we didn’t cover, contact Marines Plumbing today!
